• What is the IFC?

The Interfraternal Council (IFC) is the governing committee of the social fraternities on campus. At Northern Illinois University, the committee consists of 15 different chapters (see IFC Chapter Profiles). Our IFC overseas the activities of each of the chapters in order to ensure the highest quality for the Northern Illinois University Greek system.

A former Student-Director of Greek Affairs once said, "You're better than you think you are..."

The IFC is intended for the future leaders of society that want to advance themselves through fraternal associations in college. The bonds that each Brother creates in his chapter are meant to inspire men to achieve more than an individual could hope to do alone. The IFC is committed to transcending common Greek stereotypes.

Why? One of the IFC Meetings in Spring 2010

Each fraternity in the IFC was founded on altruistic ideals that intend to bring out the best in each of its members. We are the leaders in community service hours on campus. We are collectively achieving a cumulative GPA above the university men's average. We are the prominent leaders on campus. We are the idealists of Northern Illinois University.

With a further commitment to excellence in the IFC, we believe that we can make a positive influence with the NIU community. We believe that we can continue to be the highest and most respected leaders at NIU. We believe that acting as gentlemen we can reverse Greek stereotypes on the NIU campus.

Finally, we believe that we can aspire to the lofty ideals that the founders of our chapters had in mind when they created their own Fraternity.
